Ferguson family papers, 1778 Oct. 6-1998 Mar 29 and no date.

Chiefly plats, grants, and other land documents from old Ninety-Six District of South Carolina, ca. 1778 to 1834. Brief transcript copy of diary, Jan. 4-April 19, 1865, kept by Miss Harriett Grady, (later Mrs. John Ferguson) while residing with her father [probably in Greenville District, S.C.]; bulk of diary focuses on months of Jan.-Feb. 1865. Topics addressed in Grady's diary include impressions of Union prisoners of war whom she mistook for Confederate deserters, disruption in train service, destruction of mills caused by Reedy River which flowed near her home, fall of Savannah and other news of Sherman's march; guests and entertainments on home front during wartime; and final entry, 19 Apr. 1865, noting that she was to be married to John Ferguson later that day. In addition to land documents, papers include cover only of "The Palmetto State Song: Music composed and Respectfully dedicated to the signers of the Ordinance of Secession," by George O. Robinson (Charleston, S.C., published by Henry Siegler, ca. 1860).
